Toyota Dream Car Contest

Toyota Hawaii is now accepting submissions for the 2014 Dream Car Art Contest, and this year we will provide prizes to the teachers as well! Every teacher who submits student artwork will be entered to win a $250 gift card for school/art supplies. One (1) random winner will be selected from each island --Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island-- and two (2) from Oahu.   Please encourage your students to enter, as they will be judged in the following age groups:
·         Under 8 years old
·         8- to 11-year-olds
·         12- to 15-year-olds
Thanks to the kind support from teachers and school officials like you, we received more than 600 entries last year, more than double from the year before! Nine finalists were chosen, with the top-scoring finalist in each of three categories winning an iPad Mini® with Retina display. The other six finalists each received $100 cash.  Former KITV anchor, Mahealani Richardson was the celebrity emcee for the Oahu awards ceremony held in April.
Due to the positive response of more than 4,200 Facebook votes, we will again hold a People’s Choice Competition for each of the three age categories. Family, friends, and fans of the Toyota Hawaii Facebook page will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite entries. The artwork with the most votes in each category at the end of the People’s Choice Competition will be automatically entered for final judging in the local competition.
Some important things to remember, so you can encourage your students to participate:
·         Entry forms are now posted online at, and available at all Toyota Hawaii dealerships statewide.
·         Students MUST use the correct-sized paper for their entry to be considered.
·         Entries can be dropped off at any Toyota dealership in the state or mailed to P.O. Box 2788, Honolulu, Hawaii 96803-2788 by January 31, 2014.
·         Public voting will occur at the Toyota Hawaii Facebook page February 17 through March 9, 2014.
·         Finalists will be notified in mid-March, and Toyota Hawaii will host an award ceremony in April for the finalists where they will receive their cash prize or iPad Mini® with Retina display.
·         If any of the Hawaii entries receive merits in the World Contest, those students will enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan to participate in the final awards ceremony in Summer 2014. All awards ceremony participants will have a chance to meet the Toyota Motor Corporation President in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture.
The judging panel includes Department of Education Art in Public Places Artist in Residence Resource Teacher Evan Tottori, Honolulu Academy of Arts Academy Art Center at Linekona Director Vince Hazen, KHON2’s Kanoe Gibson, Hawaii News Now’s Tannya Joaquin, Shriner’s Hospital’s Mahealani Richardson and Toyota Hawaii’s Glenn Inouye.
For inspiration, students are encouraged to view artwork of last year's contest finalists at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Academy Art Center at Linekona on display from January 1 – 30 as well as at Kahala Mall from November 25 to December 23.
In 2012, Emily Stone of Kaneohe earned a trip to Japan where she was the only U.S. representative among 30 international students awarded at the Toyota Motor Corporation World Contest.
Conducted as part of Toyota Motor Corporation's social contribution activities, the contest gives children throughout the world the opportunity to develop an interest in cars and helps them experience the joy and importance of having a dream. Last year's contest, the seventh since it was first held in 2004, attracted more than 600,000 entries from 70 countries and regions.
